Folk Crafts Shop TAKUMI, Tottori was opened by folk art activist Shoya Yoshida in 1932. It was named by Yanagi Muneyoshi and is the oldest existing folk art specialty store in Japan. The store offers a wide range of handcrafted items from all over a Japan, with a particular focus on folk art from Tottori and Shimane. Yoshida also opened the Tottori Folk Crafts Museum in 1949 to promote folk art and inspire creators. The museum’s collection contains around 5,000 pieces of old East Asian and Western folk art, as well as new works created under Yoshida’s direction. The building is a recognized Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.
