Oguraya

Oguraya was founded about 200 years ago by woodworker Sahee Ogura who moved to Tottori Prefecture and started making Hikimono (products made from wood made on a lathe). Following in his footsteps, Koji Ogura (8th generation in the family) created the wooden dolls in the image of the twelve Zodiac animals, adding creative designs to the conventional lathe work. The body is made of lathe work and the surface is colored with opaque paints. The simple yet innovative style has been well received by not only fans of the Chinese Zodiac, but also by the younger generation and the items can be found at select stores nationwide. The Ogura family still retains control of the craft to this day.
