Inshu Wakasa Kiln

A kiln located within Wakasa Town, an area of outstanding nature overlooking the foot of Mt. Hyonosen. In 1976, Eiji Otsubo began crafting tea ceremony utensils and earthenware bells associated with local history, festivals and the Chinese zodiac. In particular, the unique texture of the zodiac bells has received praise from earthenware bell fans throughout Japan. The kiln has also produced earthenware bells for the Tottori Prefecture mascot Toripy, Sandshrew and Alola Sandshrew (Pokémon characters that serve as Tottori Hometown Ambassadors) and the new Wakasa Railway ‘Showa’ themed trains. Through their earthenware bells, the kiln is able to introduce local culture and new contents to the rest of Japan.
