Inshu Nakai Kiln

This kiln was opened in 1945 by first generation artist Toshiro Sakamoto. His son Chikao began working on new folk crafts under the guidance of folk art activist Shoya Yoshida. His son Akira continues to create works, such as the ‘Yanagi Sori Direction’ series (consisting of three-colored plates made up of green, white and black glazes) and traditional celadon glazed dishes. Since 2018, Muneyuki (of the 4th generation) has also joined the pottery making team. The Hiketa River flows close to the kiln and the tranquil, rural scenery of the nearby village of Nakai provides a calming atmosphere for visitors.
