Machiya Seisuian
Enjoy coffee, mochi and zenzai (sweetened red bean soup) in a Meiji-era townhouse space complete with a skylight and atrium. Mochi Shabu is a popular choice at this mochi specialty store that has been in business for more than 100 years. This colorful mochi is kneaded with carrot, shiitake mushroom, green tea, pumpkin, sesame, blueberry, pepper, corn, wormwood, shrimp, yuzu and chestnut, dipped into bonito broth simmered in a pot to resemble a Jūnihitoe (a 12-layered-robe worn by noble women in the Heian period).
