Kazuwa Kiln

First generation potter Otokichi adopted the Kyoto style and was succeeded by Saburo (Funi), who incorporated local colors with the kiln’s unique lathing and glazing styles. Kiyoshi (Hakuga) continues the tradition of cinnabar glaze, which has been valued since ancient times for its impressive deep red color, as well as creating works using new techniques like Nashi-haigusuri (pear ash glaze). In the pottery classroom, individual or group bookings can try their hand at making their own coffee cups, rice bowls and plates and watch live Rokuro pottery-making demonstrations.
