Following in the steps of Kyoto’s Sozan Suwa, Toshiyuki Suzuki revived Daisen-yaki, a craft that had ceased to exist during the Taisho era (1912-1926), and opened the Daisen-yaki Kugo Kiln in 1970. From coffee cups and other everyday items to works of art like vases and traditional teacups, the kiln produces a wide range of items that combine simplicity and modernity. The Tamahagane Yotenmoku, coated in a metallic glossy luster, is a particularly eye-catching style. Harumichi, a second generation potter in the family, has also worked with celadon, drip oil, Qing Porcelain, and ash glaze styles. The pottery making experience among the rich natural environment at the foot of Mt. Daisen is also popular with tourists!
