Also called Suganosen, this mountain is located on the border between Wakasa and Hyogo Prefecture. At 1,150m above sea level, it is the second highest mountain in the Chuugoku region after Mt Daisen. It woods are filled with beech trees, with patches of virgin forest, particularly in clusters of beech, ash, and yew growing around the summit. At times these trees can be seen covered with frost, a rare sight in western Japan. Mountain climbing can be done all year round, and the quality of snow gives quite the reputation as an excellent skiing spot. These attributes with its location near Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe, make it an ideal recreation area, drawing visitors for climbing, camping, and skiing, throughout the seasons.
